About Us
Origins of Envirokirn

The group itself evolved originally from a conversation in 1999, regarding the general condition of the village due to years of neglect, which in turn seemed to be the cause of a general malaise and a state of apathy in the area. A suggestion was made to reach out to the community with a view to forming an “Action Group or Think Tank”, to form ideas that may help to improve the area. A few people got together and it was decided to advertise a public meeting in the Kirn Parish Centre on 19th May 1999. 24 local residents attended and, although agreeing that there was a need for action, declined physical assistance but gave us a mandate to form a steering group.,
On 31st May this group met and formed a committee with 4 office bearers and 5 other members, adopting the grand title of “Kirn Action Group”. A constitution was set up and regular monthly meetings have since taken place, with our AGM for 2011 being held in June. To date, there are 11 Committee Members
As the group’s aims were firmly based on environmental matters and improvements, it was decide in autumn 1999 to rename the group “EnviroKirn Action Group” and since that date it has been constituted accordingly. The group achieved Charitable Status and is now a Registered Scottish Charity No. SCO33800.
