Origin

The group itself evolved originally from a conversation between two of the present committee members regarding the general condition of the village due to years of neglect, which in turn seemed to be the cause of a general malaise and a state of apathy in the area. During this discussion in 1999 a suggestion was made to reach out to the community with a view to forming an "Action Group or Think Tank", to form ideas that may help to improve the area. After a few had got together, it was decided to advertise a public meeting in the village and this was held in Kirn Parish Centre on 19th May 1999. This meeting of 24 local residents, although agreeing that there was a need for action, declined physical assistance but gave us a mandate to form a steering group.,

On 31st May this group met in 59, Marine Parade, Kirn and formed a committee with 4 office bearers and 5 other members, adopting the grand title of "Kirn Action Group". A constitution was set up in June 1999 and regular monthly meetings have since taken place, with our AGM on April each year. Committee numbers have now risen to 12 as a result of the group's successful completion of community beneficial
projects.

As the group's aims were firmly based on environmental matters and improvements, it was decide in autumn 1999 to rename the group "EnviroKirn Action Group" and since that date it has been constituted accordingly. The group are currently seeking Charitable Status.
