2006 AGM Kirn Parish Centre 26th April
The turn out this year was slightly above average and Chairman Tom Morrison opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and outlining the work carried out by the group over the last year. Treasurer and Projects Manager Brian Chennell gave an explanation on the financial situation and proceeded to give an insight into the projects for the year ahead. A copy of the accounts were issued to all who attended.
The committee was then dissolved and June Campbell assumed her traditional role as temporary chair for the election of the new committee. Eleven of last year's committee were re-elected as Secretary Matt G Duffy did not stand for re-election due to further deterioration in his health. Ron Harris was elected as Secretary and Wilma McMillan was voted onto the committee thereby giving 12 committee members as per constitution. Matt was a founder member of the group and had been secretary from the outset. A great deal of thought had gone into his decision to stand down but he did not want to sever contact completely and would continue to produce EnviroKirn Newsletter and maintain the web site.
There was a general discussion and the Chairman closed the meeting at 8.45pm.

EnviroKirn Newsletter
This free newsletter was introduced in October 2003 as part of the launch of 'Friends of Kirn' and shortly afterwards became a regular medium to inform people of our intentions and eventually evolved into what it is today. We publish it generally every 2 months giving information on the happenings in the village and the aspirations of the group.
Our Newsletter is available from, Kirn Post Office, Kirn Variety Store, Village Tearoom & Garden Centre, Jacquelines Hairdresser, Kirn Deli and the IT Shop.
We thank Gary Campbell, Remax's agent for Kirn who sponsors the publishing for us.

2005 Santa's Grotto & Post Box
Santa's grotto;
This was very successful this year with 316 Children and 261 adults visiting Santa. Our youngest visitor this year was only 2 weeks old! We were delighted to have the best attendance since our first year ,when we had our real live deer! Most of the running of the Grotto was by committee members, but our thanks go to Anne Glass, Anne Kirkland, Marion Morrison and Myra Duffy who were willing helpers. Our thanks also go to Stuart Hunter, pictured inside, who gave Santa and our first day visitors a great welcome by playing a selection of Christmas Carols on the bagpipes. Thanks also to Dave Cowley, Dunoon, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue for giving Santa and some of the children a tour of Kirn and Dunoon, The Clootie Dumplings, Kirn Brownies and Cowal Handbell Ringers for entertainment, George Byars, proprietor of the village for the use of his premises, forecourt and electricity. John Cairns for paint and signwriting, Stewart McNee for the Portacabin and his joiners for help with construction, Steven McCaig for erecting passageway between tearoom and grotto, Neil Paterson for holly, John Thomson for the Handbell and last but certainly not least Brian Chennell for his fertile imagination and the decoration of the Grotto.
Santa’s Post Box;
This year Santa replied to 50 letters which arrived via his special letter box in the village.
Christmas Lighting;
Thanks to all the local shopkeepers for their
assistance with the Festive Lighting;

Envirokirn - Jubilee Award Winners Update
We are delighted to have been one of the few Scottish Organisations to win the Queen's Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service in 2004.

On 19 July Brian Chennell and Matt Duffy, representing Envirokirn, travelled to a special Presentation Reception in London. The Reception was held at St James's Palace and was hosted by the Queen and Prince Philip, both of whom spent time chatting to Brian and Matt. Each of them congratulated Envirokirn on their significant acheivements over the past few years with the Queen commenting in particular on the Group's success despite its tender years. Envirokirn were one of only 12 groups in Scotland to receive this award.

The Trophy, which is crystal and depicts a laser cut crown, was presented to the Group on 29 July 2004 at a Lunch hosted by the Village Coffee Shop. The Presentation was made by Mr KA McKinnon the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll. The Committee of Envirokirn feel this trophy belongs to the people and village of Kirn and will arrange for its dispaly as soon as a suitable and secure location can be found.

Friends of Kirn.
This was inaugurated last year in order to give residents an opportunity to donate to EnviroKirn Action Group committee to assist them to continue in their efforts to improve our village. The response was excellent and although our request was for £5 per household we received many donations of over £5 giving us a grand total of £2,038.50. Many contributors suggested that we do this annually, so it is intended to send out letters during September/October. There were one or two hiccups last time due to our inexperience resulting in a few residents actually contributing twice. If that is the case we ask you to ignore this years appeal. Please be assured all monies donated are spent on village projects.

Ex Residents
Fiona McCabe a grand-daughter of the late Janet McInnes of Park House, Hunter Street, found us on our web site, and sent a nice e-mail recalling fond memories of both Kirn and Hunter’s Quay. She later sent a £50 donation which we received with pleasure.

Another enquiry by e-mail came from a Helen Windsor about her father Philip Joseph Kelly who mentions Kirn a lot in his autobiography. If anyone recalls the name please let us know.
